The whistle sounds automatically for two seconds each time the loco starts from rest.
There are then two options for sounding the whistle when the loco is in motion:
- If you turn dip switch 3 on then the whistle will sound automatically three times a minute; each time for one second.
- Install a reed switch under the loco and connect it to the H1 and H2 terminals on the soundcard. Place magnets in or under the track at the points of your layout where you want the whistle to sound; like the approach to a level crossing, for example. When a magnet closes the reed switch the whistle will sound for one second.
The style of whistle can be adjusted as follows:
- If dip switch 2 is off then a plain whistle will be simulated. If dip switch 2 is on then it will change to a chime whistle.
- The tone trimpot can be turned to adjust the pitch of the whistle to suit your loco.
Below are some examples of whistles and the diagram shows the soundcard settings to achieve them.
