Like the universal steam, diesel and electric soundcards this soundcard is highly adjustable to suit a wide variety of US, European and other trams, streetcars and modern light rail.

MyLocoSound Tram/Streetcar retains the installation simplicity of screw terminals and also the same low price. However the quality and variety of sounds has been achieved by recording and synthesising the prototypes.

There is a choice of three different warning bells/gongs plus a selection of seven horns and air whistles including a Klaxon. A conductor's buzzer is available plus the optional call of "All aboard". A brake squeal can be selected to sound as the vehicle comes to a halt and rail squeal can be heard at intervals or when triggered by the customer. Southern Electric, Metropolitan Vickers and Birney compressors can automatically sound when the vehicle is stationary.

The motor sound was derived from preserved heritage vehicles and increases in pitch as speed increases. Two alternative motor sounds are provided and their pitch can be varied by the customer.

Whilst it’s great to have a highly adjustable soundcard, the benefit is lost if you have to take the vehicle apart each time you want to make an adjustment. MyLocoSound has solved this problem by providing a handheld remote control which is used to make all adjustments from outside the locomotive. These are Sony compatible TV remote controls which can be purchased from local consumer electronics stores or from MyLocoSound at very little cost. Only one remote control is needed for any number of soundcards of all types.

All of the sounds can be triggered by the function buttons of the Crest Revolution or the multi-channel radio control systems from Fosworks, RCS, Micron, Mtronics, Mac 5, Cliff Barker, RailBoss, Airwire, Revolution and others.

MyLocoSound Universal also works well with simple track powered railways. On these, the sounds can be triggered in three ways. Firstly, the warning bell/gong can be set to sound automatically when the loco moves off and at timed intervals when running.

Secondly, trackside magnets and loco mounted reed switches can trigger any of the sounds at selected positions on the railway. Thirdly the remote control can be used to trigger any of the sounds but only from short distances.

On track powered railways, each locomotive needs a nine volt support battery on board to sustain the sound when the track voltage is reduced to stop at a station. This battery will recharge automatically when the vehicle is running.

Many of the sounds were obtained from the trams at the Crich and Seaton tramways in Britain.
